The perfumers behind the fragrance

Paco Rabanne's 1 Million is a woody, spicy fragrance for men. The perfumers behind this scent are Olivier Pescheux, Michel Girard, Christophe Raynaud, and Christian Dussoulier.

The fragrance was launched in 2008 and has since become extremely popular. It has top notes of bracing citruses, blood mandarin orange, frosted grapefruit, and sea notes with cardamom. The middle notes are juniper berries and rose, and the base notes are leather, amber, creamy sandalwood patchouli, and tonka bean.

The perfumers created an earthy, refreshing, and modern scent profile that stands the test of time. The fragrance is described as having a signature composition that is recognizable by its unique blend of notes.

In 2015, Paco Rabanne launched a new version of 1 Million called "1 Million Cologne." This new interpretation of the original scent is fresher and more energetic, seductive, and charming. The fragrance is said to be fun, with a citrus cocktail of mandarin and cardamom, mixed with floral notes of rose and juniper berries. The perfumers behind this new version are also Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard.

In 2020, Paco Rabanne presented another new fragrance, "1 MILLION Parfum," created by Christophe Raynaud and Quentin Bisch. This version is described as a "flamboyant new take on 1 MILLION," with a floral leather scent and a solar strength.

The 1 Million range

Over the years, Paco Rabanne has released several flankers and limited editions of the original 1 Million fragrance, including:

  • 1 Million Absolutely Gold (2012)
  • 1 Million Intense (2013)
  • 1 Million $ (limited edition)
  • 1 Million Cologne (2015)
  • 1 Million Parfum

The 1 Million Cologne, which was launched in the summer of 2015, is a fresher and more energetic interpretation of the original. It has the same signature gold bar-shaped bottle but is transparent, reflecting the lighter character of the fragrance. This version has top notes of marine and citrus with mandarin and cardamom; heart notes of floral rose with juniper berries; and a base of patchouli, tonka bean, and leather.

In addition to the cologne, the 1 Million range also includes an eau de toilette, eau de parfum, parfum, and deodorant products.

The bottle design

The bottle for 1 Million cologne is modelled after a gold ingot, with a signature gold bar shape. The original gold bar bottle was opaque, but the newer Cologne version is transparent, reflecting the lighter character of the fragrance. The bottle is carved with the iconic 1 Million insignia. The gold bar theme is also reflected in the advertising campaign, with the cologne being promoted as a "gold bar of pleasure".

Customer reviews

Review 1:

> "I love fragrances so I love trying new scents out to add to my collection. I really enjoy some men's fragrances because they can be understated and pleasant even for women, and I tend to go for more woodsy, spicy scents anyway. I wasn't sure about Paco Rabanne's 1 Million at first but it did grow on me for sure. It's definitely from a more earthy family and has notes of Patchouli (which I love), Mandarin, Peppermint, and Cinnamon. Some of my favourite scents are a little sweeter and florally but I love dipping into the spicier scents, as well, and this one gets me compliments every time I wear it! I would honestly say this is more of a gender-neutral scent as long as you're bold enough to wear it! ;) Definitely giving this 4 stars!"

Review 2:

> "This cologne by Paco Rabanne smells great! It's a great masculine scent. My hubby loved it. The only thing that was a downfall was the fact that it didn't last/stay long so it would have to be reapplied a few times. Went through the bottle quick but definitely does smell good! The bottle it comes in is definitely unique and sleek looking! It can be used as a daytime scent or even a going-out-at-night scent!"

Review 3:

> "I wouldnt buy this one again. Kinda allergic to any Million now after all those releases and smelling it all the time on literally anyone back in the days."

Review 4:

> "I managed to find a tester of this for a reasonable price and am VERY happy about it! Easily my favourite from the One Million line, a line that I don't typically care for. It's fresh and clean with a sweetness that isn't too cloying and a surprisingly masculine floral component that improves even more as it dries down. Which brings me to the one setback. It's not much of a performer compared to its brothers in the line. And because it's discontinued, I intend to use this bottle pretty sparingly."

Review 5:

> "I finally tried this in Macy's a month ago and although I couldn't decide if I really liked it or not, there was something about that just really draws me in. The rose is not harsh or sharp at all (it is mellowed out by the sweetness, soapiness, and citrus). The soap is most prominent in the first few minutes, but remains in the background for the duration of the scent. Maybe there is something vintage inspired about this, especially the leather, patchouli, and rose, but it still is very appropriate for a younger crowd. I find the original scent to be a little out of balance and lacking in versatility, I think that this flanker is definitely better, and it still definitely related. This is probably less masculine, but I don't think it really toes the line, especially for a rose scent. This is really a wonderful scent, versatile, pleasant, and suitable for a wide range of people. It may not be the best blind buy, but it is available at many stores. I think this is more appealing than the original, and is definitely something that should be tried!"

Review 6:

> "I bought this after swapping the original 1 million which was far too common here, smelt good on a lot of people but sickly and rancid on me. I must say Paco Rabanne have got no imagination because the cologne is a completely different fragrance which, in my opinion, should have had a different name and different bottle! A citrus to begin with including a light floral note. After an hour the smoothness and the leather aspects shine through. Office or dinner party safe and personally don't think it could offend anyone. Lasting power a good 4 hrs on my dry skin. Value for money and quite unique. Think it will become a favourite of mine."
