The mothers featured on the show include Melissa Gisoni, Christi Lukasiak, Holly Hatcher-Frazier, Kelly Hyland, Jill Vertes, Kira Girard, Cathy Nesbitt-Stein, and Jessalynn Siwa. These women have gained notoriety for their competitive and often contentious behaviour, with fans voting Christi Lukasiak their favourite mom on the show. The mothers' actions have also had a negative impact on their children, with some dancers speaking out about the toxic environment and competition fostered by the show and Miller.

Christi Lukasiak, Chloe's mom, was known for getting into arguments with Abby Lee Miller, the dance instructor on the show. Abby was often seen criticising Chloe's dancing abilities and pitting her against Maddie Ziegler, another dancer on the show. Abby would often favour Maddie over Chloe, which would lead to arguments between Christi and Abby.

Christi was also not afraid to stand up to Abby, which was a stark contrast to some of the other mothers on the show. Christi's refusal to let Abby control Chloe led to Abby taking digs at Christi's childhood, living situation, and even her own daughter. Abby would often make comments about Chloe's character and work ethic, and would tell other mothers that Chloe was "vicious" and "evil".

Christi's friendship with Kelly Hyland, another mother on the show, also became strained in the third season. Christi was also friendly with Holly Hatcher-Frazier, but was more likely to argue with the other mothers. Despite the arguments, fans of the show repeatedly voted Christi their favourite mom.

Chloe started dancing with the Abby Lee Dance Company at the age of two and was a regular on the show from its premiere through to the fourth season. After the season four finale, Christi and Chloe left the show. They returned as guests in season seven, but left once again following the season finale.

Holly Frazier, Nia's mom, was seen as the most rational and measured of the mothers

Holly Hatcher-Frazier, Nia's mom, was seen as the most rational and measured of the mothers on Dance Moms. She was also the most educated, having completed a doctorate in education. Frazier was a school principal when her daughter Nia was training at the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC).

Frazier was often yelled at by Abby Lee Miller for being absent in supporting her daughter. However, she was the mom who had the least number of fights with Miller because she kept a calm attitude.

Frazier fought with Miller over the years, especially concerning how her daughter was treated as one of the few Black girls in the company. In one instance, Miller assigned Nia her first solo dance but she was asked to wear an afro for a jungle-themed routine. Frazier recalled:

> 'People were like "You're just being too sensitive. You ask for your kid to have a solo, she finally got a solo. You're never satisfied." No, it's not a life-or-death issue, but it still has a profound effect on a child's development... It was the idea that someone else had the power and audacity to tell me this is what Black women — what Black girls — look like.'

Frazier has since co-hosted the podcast Because Mom Said So with fellow dance moms Melissa Gisoni, Kelly Hyland, and Jill Vertes. In 2014, the Ivy League graduate published the book Moments of Clarity: Daily Affirmations from Dr. Holly.

Jill Vertes, Kendall's mom, was initially disliked by the other mothers

Kelly fought with Abby on the show because of the lack of time Abby spent with Brooke and Paige. In Season Four, a physical altercation with Abby led to court battles, tabloid headlines, and her departure from the show.

Kelly was later charged with assault for the incident but the case was later dismissed. She and her daughters left the show in the middle of season four.

Brooke and Paige were two of the original dancers on the show. Brooke was the oldest permanent dancer on the team and often complained about missing out on time with her friends. She released a self-titled album in 2013 and graduated from Ohio University in 2019 with a degree in marketing, management information systems, and business analytics. She is now a social media influencer with 4 million followers on Instagram.

Paige, Brooke's younger sister, also danced from seasons 1 through 4 on Dance Moms. She sued Miller for assault in 2014, claiming she was subject to emotional abuse and fear caused by the dance coach's violent outbursts. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissed the suit in 2015. Paige graduated from West Virginia University in 2023 with a degree in business administration and has almost 4 million followers on Instagram.

Kira Girard, Kalani Hilliker's mom, was brought to ALDC in Season 4

Kira Girard, mother of Kalani Hilliker, was brought to the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) in Season 4 of Dance Moms. Hilliker was born on September 23, 2000, in Mesa, Arizona, to Kira Girard and Matthew Hilliker. Hilliker started dancing at the age of two, as her mother initially enrolled her in dance classes because she thought it would be fun to dress her daughter up.

Girard and Hilliker first appeared in the season four episode "Big Trouble in the Big Apple." They were brought on to replace Brooke and Paige Hyland on the ALDC team. While originally a guest dancer, Hilliker became a permanent member of the team at the beginning of the competition season during season five.

Girard and Hilliker left the ALDC during season seven to form "The Irreplaceables" with Nia Sioux, Kendall Vertes, Chloe Lukasiak, and Camryn Bridges, which was led by Dancing with the Stars alum Cheryl Burke. Following the season finale, they left the show entirely.

In December 2017, after the seventh season of Dance Moms wrapped, Hilliker, Kendall, Chloe, and Nia started The Irreplaceables Tour, holding workshops and dancing in cities across North America and abroad.
