Easy Steps To Install Aroma Gapps

how to install aroma gapps

AROMA GApps (previously known as AROMA LP-GAPPS) is an open-source project that allows users to install only the Google Apps they want on their Android devices. It was created in 2015 by raulx222, who wanted to give users more control over which apps they installed. The main benefit of AROMA GApps is that it offers a more customised installation process, allowing users to select the specific apps they want to install through an attractive and intuitive graphical user interface.

Characteristics Values
Creation AROMA Open GApps was created at the beginning of 2015 from a discussion between two friends about how it would be nice to install only the GApps that one wants.
Initial development raulx222 started to develop a config for AROMA-Installer and made a package based on PA GApps.
Integration with Open GApps On 1st June 2015, LP-GAPPS was integrated with the Open GApps project, which used the same install mechanism.
Main benefit of integration The AROMA packages were now built daily with the latest GApps, instead of being manually repackaged with each release.
AROMA Installer meaning "AROMA" is an abbreviation of "AMARULLZ ANDROID ROM MANIFESTATION".
AROMA Installer features Wizard Installation, Touch User Interface (AROMA UI), Customizable Packages, System Inspecting, Themeable, and User Interactive.
AROMA Installer creation AROMA Installer was created in 2012 by Ahmad Amarullah and became very popular very quickly.
AROMA Installer development status Development almost stopped in 2013, but AROMA Installer still works on most devices with ARM architecture.
AROMA Open GApps future plans To make the user interface of the aroma package more dynamic per Android version, e.g. hiding "unavailable keywords" on Android versions where they are not applicable.

Boot into the custom recovery menu

To boot into the custom recovery menu, you'll need to have already installed a custom recovery on your Android device. The most common custom recoveries are TWRP and ClockworkMod Recovery.

To boot into the custom recovery menu, you'll need to shut down your device and then turn it back on by holding down the Volume Down + Power buttons for 5 seconds. This should be done as the phone restarts, or boots up.

Once you're in the custom recovery menu, you can proceed to the next steps of installing AROMA GApps.

Flash AROMA-LP-GAPPS.zip

Flashing AROMA-LP-GAPPS.zip is a process that should be performed on a custom recovery menu. It is recommended to use TWRP for this purpose.

  • Boot into the custom recovery menu.
  • Navigate to the relevant section for flashing ZIP files. This could be named "Install", "Install ZIP", or something similar, depending on your custom recovery.
  • Locate the AROMA-LP-GAPPS.zip file on your device. It is important that this file is stored on your device's internal storage or a connected SD card, rather than on cloud storage.
  • Select the AROMA-LP-GAPPS.zip file.
  • Confirm the flashing process. This will initiate the installation of the file.
  • Once the flashing process is complete, you may need to reboot your device for the changes to take effect.

It is important to note that flashing custom files can be a complex process and may have risks associated with it. It is recommended to have a backup of your important data before proceeding. Additionally, ensure that you are using the correct file for your specific device and Android version.

Choose desired apps

Once you have booted into the custom recovery menu (TWRP is highly recommended), you can choose the desired apps from AROMA.

The AROMA package is a special version of the regular 'Super' package, but with a graphical front-end that will allow you to select which specific applications to install (or not) without having to manually write a gapps-config file.

If you don't select any app from the AROMA Installer, then just the core apps are installed (including the Play Store app).

It is recommended to install on a fresh system partition (wipe the system, flash ROM, flash GApps). User apps and data will remain untouched.

If you have already installed LP-GAPPS, you can flash LP-GAPPS again to install/remove desired GApps.

Any changes made by LP-GAPPS (GApps installed and/or removed apps) will persist over ROM updates. To stop the installs/removals when you update your ROM, you will have to delete the backup scripts or just wipe the system partition.

The Open GApps app will automatically detect the architecture and version your Android device is running on to ensure that you don’t flash the wrong packages by accident.

If you are thinking about moving over to a custom ROM that is different and with another Android version, you have the ability to select the desired CPU architecture and version manually.

You can also use downsizing and include micro-only and then test some additional add-ons. This was what I needed to do in order to get the pixel launcher installed as a system app and remove the default launcher.
