Knight's interest in older houses started when he was young. He told Boston.com, "I just always liked an older house growing up. So it just got to a point where I was done with doing new construction and really wanted to get back to where my heart was, with the older houses."

Knight's journey to having his own show started after he stepped back from singing. He channelled his energy into home remodelling and honed his skills over the years, eventually landing the opportunity to partner with HGTV.

Knight is not the only member of NKOTB who has ventured into new avenues. His brother and fellow band member, Jordan Knight, is a stay-at-home dad to his two children and has invested in restaurants. Other band members have also explored acting, podcasting, and cooking.
