Since port blockades are frequent and you still pay trade ship upkeep, it's often better to sell goods domestically for half price than suffer a blockade. When establishing a trade agreement, the game designates a trading port for the agreement, and this port can be blockaded. Therefore, it's a good idea not to establish sea trade with clans that have a weak navy, as their ports are more susceptible to blockade.
