His military service

He had the option to join the Seoul Police Promotional Team, the theatre unit under the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, but he chose to serve as an active-duty soldier. His role in Gu Family Book
In the 2013 South Korean television series Gu Family Book, Choi Jin-hyuk plays the role of Gu Wol-ryung, a mystical forest protector and gumiho. He is the guardian spirit of Mt. Jiri and is fond of travelling outside to see the world. During one of his travels, he comes across Yoon Seo-hwa (played by Lee Yeon-hee) and falls in love with her. They marry, but he keeps his identity hidden until it is revealed, and Seo-hwa, being too young and fearful, betrays him with her impulsive actions.
