How to unlock the ability to use incense
In Persona 5, players live out a year in the life of a high school boy who gains the ability to summon facets of his psyche, known as Personas. Incense is a special type of item that can be used to boost the selected stats of a Persona while under lockdown in the Velvet Room. This feature is exclusive to Persona 5 Royal.
To unlock the ability to use incense, players must first unlock the Lockdown ability by levelling up the Strength Confidant (Caroline and Justine) to tier 3. The Lockdown ability will then show up in the main menu of the Velvet Room as "Train Personas". Once the Lockdown ability is unlocked, players can put a Persona in confinement, and its stats will raise over time.
During a Lockdown, players can use incense to further increase one or more of a Persona's stats. Incense can be obtained from various sources in the game. The Mantra Ganda shop in Kichijoji sells incense, with Musk available from July and Rasta Sandalwood from October. Jose in Mementos sells Ambergris and Nirvana incense and refreshes his inventory each time players enter a new area. Incense can also be ordered through Home TV Shopping on 7/3 and 11/13 when you examine the TV downstairs at Cafe LeBlanc.
By combining Lockdowns and incense, players can give a Persona 99 in every stat, making it extremely powerful. This may take until late in a New Game Plus run to achieve, but a Persona with maxed-out stats can be a big help when fighting the bonus bosses that also unlock during a New Game Plus.

Where to buy different types of incense
Incense is used in many cultures for various purposes, including worship, meditation, aromatherapy, mood enhancement, and air purification. Different types of incense can be purchased from different parts of the world, each with its own unique characteristics and benefits. Here are some places to buy different types of incense:
Tibetan Incense
Tibetan incense, which includes varieties from Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan, is known for its pungent, earthy, and smoky scents. It is crafted specifically for Buddhist worship, often following centuries-old recipes. This type of incense is typically made from ingredients gathered in the Himalayas and usually comes in the form of long, thick sticks without a bamboo core, as well as coils and cones. You can find Tibetan incense at specialty stores or online retailers that offer incense from this region.
Japanese Incense
Japanese incense is known for its mild and refined scent, producing less smoke compared to other varieties. It often features natural and rare ingredients. The most popular form is a thin, short, delicate stick without a bamboo core, but it is also available in coil and cone shapes. Japanese incense can be purchased from Japanese specialty stores or online retailers that offer Japanese incense and cultural products.
Indian Incense
Indian incense is what most people associate with the classic incense scent. It is typically bold and made with natural ingredients such as woods, herbs, spices, resins, and essential oils. Popular scents include sandalwood, jasmine, Nag Champa, and patchouli. Indian incense usually comes in the form of coated bamboo sticks but is also available in coils and cones. You can find Indian incense at many specialty stores or online retailers that offer Indian products.
Online Retailers and Subscriptions
Online retailers and subscription services provide a convenient way to purchase incense from the comfort of your home. Websites like Wild Berry, Africa Imports, and P.F. Candle Co. offer a wide range of incense sticks and cones with various fragrances to choose from. These sites often provide subscription options that deliver different incense fragrances to your doorstep each month.
