In the video game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, players can create Fountainhead Incense by obtaining three items: The Shelter Stone, the Fragrant Flower (aka Lotus of the Palace), and the Mortal Blade. However, some players have reported a glitch that prevents them from activating the incense. This glitch seems to occur due to dialogue issues with the non-player characters (NPCs) Emma, Kuro, and Isshin. Players have suggested a few potential workarounds, such as interacting with different NPCs or completing side quests, but the specific solution may vary depending on the player's choices and progress in the game.

What You'll Learn

Players need to obtain three items to make the Fountainhead Incense
To make the Fountainhead Incense in Sekiro™, players need to obtain three items: the Shelter Stone, the Fragrant Flower (also known as the Lotus of the Palace), and the Mortal Blade.
The Shelter Stone can be obtained by defeating the Corrupted Monk. After the battle, players must go through the doorway behind the monk and pick up the stone from the table. The Fragrant Flower can be obtained by defeating the Guardian Ape. The Mortal Blade can be earned by completing specific missions in the game.
Once players have obtained these three items, they will need to make a significant choice. They must choose between abandoning the Iron Code and staying loyal to Kuro, or triggering the Shuro ending by remaining loyal to the Iron Code. If players choose to abandon the Iron Code, they will need to defeat the Great Shinobi Owl and obtain the Aromatic Branch, which is the final ingredient for the Fountainhead Incense.
It is important to note that some players have reported glitches while trying to make the Fountainhead Incense, even after obtaining all the required items. These glitches may involve dialogue options that seem to be stuck or unavailable, and they can hinder progress in the game. However, workarounds and solutions for these glitches can be found through online resources and walkthrough videos.

The Shelter Stone is one of the three items required
To make the Fountainhead Incense in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you need to obtain three items: The Shelter Stone, the Fragrant Flower (also known as the Lotus of the Palace), and the Mortal Blade. The Stone can be obtained by defeating the Corrupted Monk. However, some players have encountered a glitch where, even after collecting all three items, they are unable to progress in the dialogue with Kuro, who continues to prompt them to find the Stone.
To resolve this issue, players have suggested interacting with the palanquin in the cave behind where you fought the Corrupted Monk. Another solution is to obtain Owl's Bell from Emma, collect the stone from the table in the now-opened doorway behind the monk fight, and then speak with the Divine Child in the Inner Chamber to obtain rice. Give the rice to Kuro, and after he gives you sticky rice, consume it. You should then be able to talk to Kuro about the items and create the incense.

The Fragrant Flower, or Lotus of the Palace, is another
To enter the cave, you need to look around the pond and find the Guardian Ape's Watering Hole idol, which you should activate. To the left of the idol, you will find the entrance to the small cavern where the flower is located. The Fragrant Flower is one of three items required to make the Fountainhead Incense, the other two being the Shelter Stone and the Mortal Blade.
After obtaining these three items, you will notice that you cannot fast travel back to Lord Kuro's room via Sculptor's Idol. Instead, you must go to the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance idol and climb up to the large balcony near the door to Kuro's Room. Here, you will find the Great Shinobi Owl, and you must choose to abandon the Iron Code and stay loyal to Kuro. If you do not make this choice, you will trigger the Shuro ending and be unable to complete the quest. After speaking with Owl, you must kill him and then go down and talk to Lord Kuro.
If you have not reported to Kuro during this quest, you may need to speak with him several times to deliver all the items. At one point, Kuro will ask you to speak with Emma, who can be found in the room where you find Isshin at the start of the Mortal Blade quest line. After speaking with Emma, return to Kuro, speak with him again, and he will concoct the Fountainhead Incense.

The final item is the Mortal Blade
To make the Fountainhead Incense in Sekiro, you need to obtain three items: the Shelter Stone, the Fragrant Flower (also known as the Lotus of the Palace or Monkey Flower), and the Aromatic Branch (or Daddy Branch). The final item is the Mortal Blade, which can be earned by completing certain missions.
Once you have the three items, you will notice that you cannot fast travel to Kuro's Room via Sculptor's Idol. Instead, you must go to the Abandoned Dungeon Entrance idol and climb up to the large balcony near the door to Kuro's Room. The Great Shinobi Owl will be waiting for you there. When prompted, choose to abandon the Iron Code and stay loyal to Kuro, otherwise, you will trigger the Shuro ending and end the quest. After you've killed the Great Shinobi Owl, go down and talk to Lord Kuro. If you haven't reported to him during this quest, you might have to speak with him several times to deliver all the items. At one point, Kuro will ask you to speak with Emma. You'll find her in the room where you find Isshin at the start of the Mortal Blade quest line. Go back to Kuro, speak with Emma again, and then speak with the little lord again. He will then concoct the Sekiro Fountainhead Incense.

Some players have experienced a glitch where they cannot trigger the incense
One player reported that after defeating Owl and speaking to Kuro, they were unable to trigger the next step of the quest. The game did not show them where to interact to proceed to the Fountainhead Palace. This issue may be due to a glitch that causes the dialogue to progress as if the player is missing required items, even when they have them in their inventory.
Another player reported a similar issue, where they had all the ingredients to burn the incense, defeated Owl, and obtained the Mortal Blade, but Kuro and Emma were still telling them to find Isshin to ask about the Mortal Blade. This player tried resting, restarting, and teleporting, but none of these actions resolved the issue.
To troubleshoot these issues, players can try speaking to different NPCs, such as Emma, Kuro, and the Divine Child, and completing any side quests they may have missed. Additionally, players should double-check that they have obtained all the necessary ingredients for the incense, as this could also be causing the glitch.
If these steps do not work, players may need to refer to walkthroughs or guides to identify any missed steps or interactions that could be causing the issue. It is also recommended to try speaking to all NPCs, as they may have missed a crucial dialogue option.
